Today marked the end of yet another amazing ATI Regional Conference! Does this picture look familiar?
It is very similar to the group shot I took of the Indianapolis crowd last year, but this one is better, I think. I reviewed the steps of action that I learned last year but found out there was more to it when I took it this year. Here is my sequal to last years post:
- Turn off the stage lights. Then you don’t have to deal with light shining directly into the lens.
- Fill the isles with people from the back. You can’t tell if the rows in the back are thin, but in looking at the two pictures, the second one looks like the auditorium is so much more full.
- I forgot to do it this year, but perhaps it would make it so much better if I had thought to communicate to the front row to stand up straight and put their hands to their sides. I could do this without saying a word by using actions as I stand at the top of the ladder. No one would have a problem seeing me.
- Use perspective clone in Photoshop. As I was stitching the picture together afterward, I used a neat little feature I hadn’t used much before to edit out some distracting stuff on the wall. Under Filter/Vanishing Point… the process for cloning things prospectively isn’t that hard to figure out.
And here are a few random shots from other events at the Conference.

I definitely agree, James! This year’s picture looks much fuller. I see a lot of familiar faces in that crowd – it makes me wish I’d been there. The one of Dad speaking is excellent too. I’d like to see your camera after the water balloon hit… 🙂
Great shots!
