Last night and this afternoon we explored the area around Hatcher Pass, a 45 minute uphill drive from Wasilla. What I loved about this place was the fact that we were close to the mountains, traversing the subalpine and alpine zones. I didn’t know exactly what that meant until I saw this sign. (I hope it’s not copyrighted…) Anyway, the winding, dirt roads were crazy and thus only accessible in the summer; and even then, only assessable to vehicles that could rough it. You’d think it couldn’t get more remote than this, but I have a feeling I’ll be changing my opinion the more we explore this incredible state of Alaska.
