Life on the Farm

I’ve been having a very enjoyable weekend with my family on the Our Father’s Farm in southern Virginia. The Fuhrmann family has been so hospitable and I have so enjoyed helping out with farm chores, walking the property, teaching photography, and herding cattle! It’s been a huge blessing to be in fellowship with other Christian’s of like mind and heart, with similar interests and goals.

This shot was taken this morning while we were milking the cows. It was a bitter cold morning and most of the animals were still huddled away as they awaited the sun to come up.

I had to use a fairly high ISO to compensate for the small amount of light in the barn. 1/13sec was a gamble to hand hold at 105mm, but I have a good feel for what the lens’ Image Stabilizer can do and I felt like I was in a stable enough position squatting on the floor leaning against a post. There were a few shots with some motion blur, but that was because my subjects blinked an eye or moved a bit during the exposure. There couldn’t be a more adorable way to portray life on the farm!

The Fuhrmanns told me to see if you posted about them 🙂
I am glad you all had a fun time together.
BTW, the camera//canon lens joke was not that funny….when I thought of having to buy you another lens for the one I “carelessly” dropped, my heart stood still.

About the camera joke, I am not mad 🙂 I was just scared about it. Today, I am over it and laughing about it!

Yeah, we had a great time at the Fuhrmanns! It’s not every day that I get to be on a farm.

And I am soooo sorry about the camera joke…. Believe me, it wasn’t my idea! I told Josh to watch out for your “payback”. 🙂 (But I suppose I should watch out too; I had an idea where Josh was going when I saw him walk out with the lens, but I didn’t say anything. Guess that makes me an accomplice in crime. 🙁 )

You’re fine! I do believe you….Josh is known for jokes, so I should have suspected something when he said he had something he just HAD to show me 🙂 And like I said, now I can laugh at it! Payback….seeing how much he scared me….hmmmmm…
It was a good joke; I want to get one of those too!

My brother and sister-in-law gave it to me after shooting their wedding a few years back. They make great gifts for photographers. 🙂

LOVE the pictures James! Thanks so much. The ones where you went across the pond are SO cool. I haven’t really looked at our place from that perspective before (sad to say). You guys DID get pretty close to the wrong end of a wooden spoon with the camera joke with me . . . twenty six or whatever doesn’t matter to me!!! 🙂 Fun. I am glad you joked me; it made you feel that much more like a kindred spirit. I am forever joking and sometimes getting into trouble. Loved the pictures. The kitty one is SO precious, all fluffed up and snuggled up and the way you captured the farm tools and straw . . . very good. The light you captured in the ones of the house and fence are amazing too. Did you give Sheila and them any pointers in that? Thanks so much for coming! Your joyful spirit is contagious. We miss your family already! Need to plan another visit soon!

Did you guys get the link for the news cast? Did it work? God bless you all and especially this weekend as you minister May He fill you all and use you mightily.
    🙂

We miss you guys too! We really enjoyed getting to know you guys better. And there were so many things to take pictures of around your farm! It really is a beautiful place. Pictures like the one of the cats just happen all over the place. 🙂 During the little short-course on photography, I did talk through several of the pictures giving pointers and tips. An hour or two is not much time to talk about all the incredible things you can do with photography, but I hope Sheila came away with at least a few things to begin experimenting with. Thanks again for providing such a blessed place to visit!
