Watch Your Focus!

This first shot was taken the other day as I was taking a walk through the woods with a friend. We were both enjoying the beautiful weather and spring smells as we chatted away. I had my camera with me and I was snapping shots here and there of the different things that we passed by.

What do you notice is wrong about this shot? Because I wasn’t fully concentrating on making sure everything was absolutely perfect, I failed to double check to see if the most important elements of the picture were in focus.

About an hour later, as I was flipping through the pictures from our walk, I noticed that this composition was probably my favorite of all the pictures I had taken. I absolutely loved the natural vignette and coincidental spiral effect in the background. I have done very little editing to it. The composition just really stood out to me. So you can imagine how dismayed I was when I zoomed in to make sure the image was tack sharp. But I was too late.

I ran to the spot I had taken the shot and tried to take it again. But no matter how I positioned myself, I couldn’t recreate it. The light had changed. The angle that had provided the effects I was searching for was gone forever.

Watch your focus. Check it before you take another step. Isn’t life the same way? If Christ is not your focus, then how can you know how to take the next step?
