Photography From the Perspective of a Designer

Just a quick reminder that the deadline for this week’s photo assignment is coming up quickly! Midnight, Friday the 26th.

Have a picture that portrays the idea of “the passage of time”, or some creative representation of Acts 24:25, “And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee”? Click here for more details on this current assignment.

For the lastest, past assignment, shooting for “coins”, PRO member @abbysherlock was awarded $5 when her picture was chosen. Her submission wasn’t without competition, though.

Hailey submitted an interesting photo which, according to Ben, the VersePic directory, depicted “a fantastic look at coins, or wealth, while still nailing poverty. She did a really good job of focusing in on coins while still having lots of textural and photographic interest.” Submissions were also received from Kimberly who “created some designs of coins to frame the Verse.”

But Abby is the one who walked away with the prize “in part because of the quality of her work, but also because she took the initiative and gave me lots of variations (eight this time!) of the same subject! On the Topic relating to this assignment on the Shoot to Serve forum, Ben continues by stating that designers and clients love having many angles to shoot from. Often a shot can’t be used, not because the subject was bad, but because he needed a different angle or view of that subject. It’s like going to the store to buy clothes: size XL is great, but it doesn’t work for everyone, just like S and M and any other size. Being able to pick different ranges, angles, lighting conditions, ect. allows a designer to be able to choose a photo based on his project rather than the design based around a photo.

From the perspective of a designer, this flexibility is a luxury.

Let’s continue providing “luxurious”, professional service in this current, Acts 24:25 assignment…before midnight tomorrow!
