Do I Recognize Opportunity?

If you happen to be up on Lenspiration’s photo assignments, you’ll have noticed that the current assignment is “Friendship”.

In short, the assignment is to be on the lookout for a photo op that illustrates the idea of Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

Well, this has turned out to be a great week for this assignment!

My family stopped in to visit some friends in New Hampshire. Since we only had about 16 hours to spend with them, we had to make the most of every minute! We ate dinner together, we played Ultimate Uno together, we played Apples to Apples together….and we also went on a hike at sunset together!

And just one hike wasn’t enough!

We got up before light the next morning to head outside again, and what a fun time we had enjoying (and taking pictures of) the beautiful sunrise!

And of each other. Smile

The clouds that morning were scratchy-looking in the direction of the sunrise, so I looked for something to take pictures of in the opposite direction where the puffy, pink clouds were more attractive looking. It was nice that the sun peaked out from the bank of clouds on the horizon for a couple minutes so the nice golden light could shine through and liven up the foreground of wild flowers.

We didn’t stay out long. We read a verse together (another one from Proverbs), took a couple more pictures of the dew on the grass, and headed back for breakfast.

We had had a fun time, and it was all fantastic….except for one thing: I had totally forgotten about the “Friendship” photo assignment!

With everyone all there together, and at that colorful time of day, it would have been the perfect opportunity!

But I had forgotten.

Thankfully, this was not an assignment that carried with it any consequence if forgotten, but it was still a little disturbing to think that I had missed an opportunity simply because I had forgotten something I didn’t want to forget!

I suppose if something really, truly is important to me, I’ll think about it enough every day to actually not even have to worry about ever forgetting about it. Smile If I am really looking forward to an opportunity, I’ll have no problem in recognizing it when it comes.

Bring these things to our remembrance,
Let us ne’er forget Thy Law,
Keep our feet from ever straying,
Make us walk in ways of love.
There be many that oppose us,
But we do not seek their praise.
Stir our minds, recall to our thoughts Thy Law,
’Til we see our Savior’s face.
