Did you all get outside and enjoy it this week? The first day of spring! Smile

I love spring. I love the days getting warmer and the colorful flowers popping out everywhere. And the evenings are lighter!

That evening was one not to be forgotten quickly. Though it was still a bit chilly, the entire campus was just budding with photographic opportunities. First was this full-blooming magnolia tree in the Fredrickson's yard. It was mainly in shaddow so I had to take pictures of them quickly and then with the sun in the background for a starburst effect.

Spring, for me, is also the beginning of convention season. And I love it. I love planning trips, I love figuring out logistics, and I love traveling there. There’s a certain excitement about pulling up to the loading dock at a huge convention center and carting booth supplies to my corner of an expansive convention hall. All the vendors are busy setting up, there’s a happy hubbub of voices and clattering carts, and there’s always new booth neighbors to meet and former booth neighbors to catch up with!

I’m especially excited about the Teach Them Diligently homeschool convention in Tennessee this year. Julianna and I will be there, running a Lenspiration booth and a class in photography. The Photo Class is a series of interactive photography classroom sessions centered around learning practical photography skills regardless of the camera you have. I’m looking forward to sharing about taking an artistic approach to photography, and then giving participants specific assignments to photograph so we can critique everyone’s photos live in the next session! I did this kind of format for the first time at the HEAV and AFHE conventions last year, and they went really well!

As I was looking through various of TTD’s promotional graphics, I thought it was really fun to see different photos that students or I had photographed at past events. Like this one (if I’m remembering correctly Smile):

Promotional Graphic - Square - Pigeon Forge

I recognize that photo! I looked through my portfolio. I looked through what I have of past student’s photos. And so far, I can’t nail down who actually took it. Without a filename to go off of, I don’t know if I can figure it out. But if the one who took it happens to be reading this blog post, let us know in the comments below!

Same with this next graphic. The background image is very generic, so I didn’t even bother trying to find who photographed it. Open-mouthed smile But it is so much fun to scroll around on TTDs website and recognize some of the photos they decided to use.

Untitled (Instagram Post (Square)) - 1

At any rate, if you’re close enough to Pigeon Forge, TN, to attend the TTD convention, and you don’t already have something planned for the first weekend in May, it would be great to see you there!
