I’m afraid I won’t be much help. I regularly freeze my hands taking pictures of snowcrystals, and so far I haven’t found any good way to preserve the feeling in my hands and be able to properly control the camera. It is hard to find the balance between gloves that are “thin” enough to allow you to use the controls, but thick enough to protect your hands! Thankfully, I take all my snowflake photos in our yard, so it’s merely a mater of running inside and warming my hands till I can feel something again. When your fingers are so numb that you can’t turn the focusing ring, you know it’s time to take a break!
Sorry I can’t be of much help, but I guess that’s just one of the “joys” of being a photographer!
