Howdy there, @peanut! Are you from Texas? I get funny looks when I say “howdy” up here in West Virginia . . . perhaps you’d be a little more familiar with the greeting? 🙂
Don’t you love sunsets?! You’ve even got some clouds in that shot. The presence of clouds really help in sunrise/sunset shots. They help to add a little texture and color to the sky. Sometimes, they make fantastic shapes and can be used as leading lines to direct the eye.
I used clouds to direct the eye toward the setting sun in this picture I took not too long ago in Minnesota. In the attachment, can you see how the clouds are acting as leading lines to direct the eye into the scene? As an added bonus, the reflection of the clouds in the lake are pointing inward too! (I didn’t even notice that when I was taking the picture, believe it or not!)
There are lines everywhere around us! Look around and see how you can include them in your shots. Perhaps the silhouetted foreground? or clouds on the other side of the sun?
@dan-cope had some good ideas too. Glad you had your camera out for that sunset!
