I wouldn’t necessarily say you have a bad habit, because your idea of keeping the attention on the waterfalls is good. AND… the woods is always full of shadows and dark, spooky areas 🙂 It wouldn’t take much to overdo it when bringing out the detail in the shadows, and I know at times, I have gotten carried away and realized later that by lightening up the shadows TOO much, I had taken away some of the realism.
