A different colored dark/light background can have an impact on perceived colors… Different software sees colors/color spaces differently. Does your file have an embedded color profile? If not, then it’s likely that the software is just taking a guess, hence the mismatch of colors.
There is no “right” color on an un-calibrated screen. And “right” depends on what you want it for. If it’s for viewing on the web, then your “right” can be interpreted 100 different ways by 100 different computers and monitors (and many of them will interpret it wrong compared to how you want it to look). If you intend to print, then I would suggest calibrating your monitor to your printer.
