I prefer your second picture over the first one for two reasons :
1. Light. The first picture looks a bit gray and dull, but probably that could be taken care of in post-processing. The second one has a much nicer lightning.
2. Environnement. Although the camera did a good job at focusing on the chicken and minimize the fence on your first picture, chicken fence can still be seen faintly.
In the second picture, the chicken on the right seems to have a bit of motion blur or slightly out of focus. It would have been neat to have both chicken tack-sharp.
