Hmm. I have taken my camera to many places in Mexico that weren’t exactly the safest places in the world and haven’t had it stolen yet. A big DSLR is harder to accidentally set down someplace or get swiped from a pocket so generally, it’s harder to steal than a phone. (I’ve had my phone stolen before in Mexico too!) If it was me, I would take the DSLR. 🙂 Just don’t leave it anywhere!
