Oh boy, a very challenging environment indeed!
You have to keep your shutter speed up to capture the movement of the creatures moving in the water. That’s the biggest challenge for me in aquariums. A steady hand and can get sharp, clear pictures at 1/40, 1/30th of a second if you put your mind to it (or even slower), but the problem is because everything you’re taking pictures of is in water, they are moving. Review your pictures often, zoomed in close on the eyes to make sure they are actually very sharp. Bring the widest aperture lens you have, jack up your ISO as high as is needed to get 1/100, and then keep double checking for that tack sharpness. You may need to go faster, depending on how fast the subjects are moving. For this reason, it doesn’t do much good to bring a tripod or a monopod. You can usually fix grain in post. You can’t fix subject blur.
Would it be unethical to bring a flashlight for someone hold and shine on closer subjects?
