Another way that works for many cameras is this website:

You can upload an unedited photo, and it will tell you how many shutter releases the camera has had. If you have a slow connection like me and don’t want to wait forever to upload a raw file you can change your settings for one picture to the smallest image quality. It looks like my shutter count is at 37849.
