Wow!!!!! What a fantastic opportunity! So, it was like a family vacation? How did you all get up there? Did you actually drive all the way? I’m sure you guys took loads of pictures. The ones you’ve shown here are fantastic!
1. How much have you cropped this image of the eagle? I would assume you’ve cropped it considerably. If you haven’t cropped it much, then I would consider cropping in from the top and right (to get rid of that white triangle wave in the top left). The fact that there’s more space on the right is good though. In terms of sharpness and camera settings, it’s sharp so you’ve done a masterful job.
2. So sorry it was cloudy all the time for you. 🙁 Most of my days in Alaska were cloudy too. But what makes it nice is that you are less likely to blow out the sky. Texture in the sky is always nice. I might have tried to include more brilliant yellow trees on the right in this shot. Maybe not zoom in so far. The amount of “empty” space in the center seems to overwhelm the more interesting parts of the image (the road, three trees, the contour of the mountains). You might say this adds to the daunting effect that you feel with the road being so small leading to the mountain, but I feel like I want to see more road or more trees.
3. That’s right, Alaska has lots of coastline. 🙂 Good composition. The image looks blurred to me. Perhaps include more of that grass in the foreground to incorporate more depth.
4. Very interesting shot! That looks like a place I stayed at overnight with the Roberts family in Homer. It was misty and everything. The fact that the background is pure white gives the effect of mystery and a “closed in” feeling. If it was a pretty background, I would have tried to bring it back in post processing for a more grand landscape shot.
5. This is my favorite of the five. Great subject. Great composition. I feel you’ve edited it nicely too, high contrast but not too high contrast. You’ve brought out the details in both dark and light areas. Where was this taken?
