Thanks Vince! To start with I opened the file in Lightroom and adjusted the contrast and white balance and brought down the highlights and increased the shadows. In order to bring out the colors, I opened the file in Photoshop. Using selection by color range, I selected the green tones in the trees and applied that selection to a layer mask on a color balance layer. I then adjusted the color balance to be more green, thus bringing out the green tones only in the selected areas. By pressing the alt key and clicking on the layer mask I can see exactly what areas are being affected. If there are areas unmasked that I do NOT want affected, I simply brush them in with black on the layer mask. Usually when I use this method, I overdo the color adjustment to an unnatural look and then adjust it to where I want it with the opacity slider. Using this same method I also enhanced the golden color in the clouds by adjusting the color balance more toward yellow and red, as well as the small blue portions of the sky by adjusting the color balance toward blue and aqua. Both of those color balance layers also affected different portions of the snow on the mountains making the sunlit portions a little more golden and the shadowed areas a little more blue. Back in Lightroom I took a brush and painted over the mountain peaks and added some contrast and clarity to make the detail really stand out.
