Spotless petals! That always helps enhance the beauty of a flower photo.
The first thing that comes to mind is the tonal values. If the photo was grayscale, there would be very little contrast between the rose and the background. While there is contrast in color, it would certainly look better if there was contrast in tonal value as well.
Experiment with different lighting situations (natural, self-created).

Try odd perspectives too: from top, below, centered straight on….take the lens off the camera, flip it around, hold it there, and move back and forth to focus for getting SUPER close ups!
