Hi @ian! Just a couple quick thoughts I had…
– I appreciate the fact that you mentioned that you took the time to clear unwanted twigs and sticks. That is SO important! So often it’s the little time spent now that saves lots of time later.
– I think a little more vibrant color and contrast would be good in editing. Perhaps tweak the highlights, as John mentioned, and also pull out the shadows more.
– In composing the shot, it may have been good to re-adjust your angle so as to either include the flowers in the background more, or go the other way and exclude them altogether. As is, I think they distract a little bit from the main subject, and don’t quite give a feeling of intentional placement.
– Lastly, you mentioned not having a great camera. Although yes, better cameras can produce better quality photos, alot of what makes great pictures has much to do with the person behind the camera – how we as photographers set up our shots, what we photograph, etc. So don’t put yourself down for not having the best camera in the world! Be faithful in doing your best with what you have, and as God provides and leads, you can upgrade at some point if that’s the direction you want to go. 🙂
I love crocuses! One of the first signs of spring for me! 🙂
