What a great assignment this was! At first, I wasn’t sure what to do! As I sifted through the past year of photos, I realized that most photos I took were for a specific purpose (i.e. family portrait sessions, STS assignments, day to day life, etc.) so even though I thought many of them were fine as a photograph, I wouldn’t consider them especially “significant” or calendar-worthy. Plus, I wanted to have a common theme to the photos to tie them all together, and I also wanted them to correspond appropriately with the 12 months of the year!
As I talked it through with my sisters, we discovered there was a theme in my photographs throughout the past year. And it was something I thought was significant: many of the pictures captured subjects we tend to take for granted in (hopefully) a thought-provoking way. The things we brush over in everyday life or don’t think are naturally beautiful (like a weed growing in a sidewalk, busy highways or a thorny branch). But when we take a moment and look at something from a new perspective, we can find remarkable beauty in unexpected places and find that we have much to be grateful for!
