Hi there @esther! These were soo fun to look at – my brother graduated from Lackland last November and your pictures gave me happy flashbacks to our family’s trip down there! It was fun to see how similar everything looked to my pictures, except they’ve upgraded the camo between then and now so there’s a slight difference. 😉
I know how challenging it is, photographing in this situation. There’s not a whole lot you can do as far as positioning yourself, plus there’s all the emotion of seeing your brother graduate and you don’t want to lose out on the actual moment just because you’re stuck to your camera. So, it’s hard not to have a “snapshot” feel to the photos.
That being said, there are things you can control in this type of scenario, like focal length, framing, and of course editing.
So, the following are my favorites:
BMT-5 – This photo has such a feeling of perfection and symmetry, except when you get to the right side of the photo and the feet in the background intersect with the row of Airmen marching in the foreground. I don’t know, I might play around with cropping that part of the photo out if I had taken it.
BMT-8-1 – Nice, clear shot of your brothers looking at the camera! It’s unfortunate the younger brother is so short in comparison, so I may have had the older brother crouch down so they were similar heights. As it is, I’m not sure if you’ve cropped in at all, but if you have I’d go back in and loosen it up so the younger brother doesn’t feel as cut-off.
BMT-10-1 – Nice job filling the frame! I love all the flags!
BMT-13-2 – Same here, although I think this one is better since you’re more on ground level and nothing’s getting cut off the top or bottom of the photo. I think this is my favorite of all your photos.
Congratulations again on your brother’s graduation – what an exciting time for your family!
