I see that you just got a D7200, so it’ll be crop sensor. 🙂 I would recommend a wide lens like the 17-70, as it will be a nice little upgrade to a regular slower 18-55 kit lens. Even 24mm isn’t very wide on a crop sensor.
If you’re wanting it more for portraits or macro work with lots of bokeh, then consider a prime 35mm or 50mm. In my mind there’s no real reason to own a 24-70 unless you have a full frame camera to use it with. 🙂
