I’ve no experience with this particular model of camera, but with most point-and-shoot cameras, they slow down with time. Though they’re inexpensive, they’re not made really tough. Anyway, that’s pretty much true with all the point-and-shoot cameras of all marks I’ve worked with (Canon, Nikon, Olympus). From a bit of quick research, it looks pretty decent, though some say the lens is a bit soft.
I thought it was worth bringing up: Has she considered mirrorless cameras as an option? It might be a viable one, since at least one major goal seems to be reduce size. She could always just keep it in auto mode, to keep things simple technically. If ever she does decide (like two or three years from now) to do more professonal stuff, she’ll already have a pretty good camera and be able to upgrade lenses etc. without buying a new camera.
