Good job keeping ISO low when birding. That’s not always easy, since it’s sometimes tempting to aim for those high shutter speeds.
Also, good job on opening the window! I don’t know how many pictures I’ve botched by keeping those three extra panes of glass between me and my subject.
The first thing I though of when I saw the picture is, “What is that bird looking at?” In terms of composition, it might have been best to have the bird, since it’s looking to the left, situated on the right side of the image. The attachment is only for demonstrating how the picture might have been taken, not how to crop it. You could improve the picture by cropping it with this in mind. Use the rule of thirds.
I notice you almost nailed the focus. If I’m not mistaken, your lens is focused just a tad bit too far out (I think the tail feathers are in focus.) The key here is practice, practice, and more practice.
Good choice of aperture; your picture has plenty of background blur.
Birding is a lot of hard work, and you’re doing a great job. Keep it up.
