Oh @ephillips, I’m so sorry! That very same thing happened to me. I have the 70-200mm f/4 and it is the sharpest lens I had at the time. The all of a sudden my photos started turning out horrible! Just like what you showed. Here’s a blog post showing a picture: https://www.lenspiration.com/2021/01/shoutout-to-royal-camera-repair/ A glass element inside the lens could literally be seen and heard moving around inside when the lens was rocked back and forth. I think I remember when the lens element was rocked into the correct position, it would take descent pictures, but then when it was “out of alignment” the pictures looked awful. This would explain why maybe sometimes you’re able to still get sharp photos with the lens. The lens repair place should have been able to fix the problem. If they didn’t, they need to re-repair it for free. That has happened to me too, the repair place not fixing it the first time around.
