Your comments during the evaluation session were helpful. I really think that one of the major issues I fight with is getting that tack-sharp focus. As I look at the picture, it seems like the in-focus area is very very small, and is along the edge of the blue balloon where it meets the yellow balloon behind it. I liked the split focus mechanism in my old film Canon AE1 – I could tell exactly what I was focusing on, and when it was in focus. With the digital cameras, even with spot focus, I find it very difficult to see at the time of exposure exactly what is being focused on.
One of the things I’ve been questioning is my Tamron 16-300mm zoom lens – it seems to be able to do sharp focus, but when taking pictures “in the wild”, the focus being off seems to be a common problem.
