Wow, good question! I think @buddingphotographer might have some experience with that. Also, @frazer-family might have (or know of others who have) experience with Darktable. Maybe they will reply with their comments?
My understanding is it is a bit complex to learn/use, but if you are willing to learn it, there certainly is the benefit of it being free!
