Welcome to the community, @adoregon11! It will be neat to see your shots from Oregon here on the forums. I assume that’s where you live? I’ve seen very little of your incredible state, but I have been to Crater Lake, and you are right! that water is unbelievably vibrant.
From what I recall, that lake was very difficult to shoot. It’s impossible to get to the water’s edge for the most part, and it’s just one vast puddle of water. When viewing from any side of the lake, the slopes on the opposite side seem so far away and flat. Including foreground elements is vital to that location, from what I can remember.
The white balance is what comes to mind first. If you shot in JPG and if the white balance was off, there’s not much you can do about it. That blue color is just very difficult to remove. Not even in Photoshop.
What I would do is try to position myself in such a way that I could see more of that peak off to the left. That would make a nice prominent element for my eye to go to in the background. It’s nice that you have the shot framed on the right and left, but I would say there is too much dirt in the foreground. I wonder what you could have done with those shapely roots if you had moved quite closer to them and fiddled around with some “forced perspective” compositions.
Those are my initial thoughts. Thanks for posting, and I’m sorry my comments were so long in coming. 🙂 I hope your first impression of the community won’t wash out future involvement.
