Have you been wondering how I know what camera you use, or what settings the pictures were taken with? All of this information is stored in your picture, in a format known as Exif data. All you have to do is have a program that can view it. There are many programs that will let you view the Exif data from a photo, but to do that, you must have the photo already on your hard-drive. I don’t want to have to download every picture from this forum just so I can see the Exif data, so I use a plugin for my browser. This plugin for Firefox allows you to view the Exif data straight from your browser, eliminating the need for downloading it, then viewing it from your hard-drive. Once you install it, you just have to right click the on the picture and select “View Image Exif Data” from the list of options.
There is an excellent article at photographylife.com on the subject.
July 1, 2014 at 3:30 pm #6514James StaddonKeymasterThis is so cool! I had just been downloading the pictures onto my computer and then viewing the metadata from there. Is there a plugin for Chrome?

There was a huge security concern lately on browser plugins, so it could pay to be selective on what you allow. That said, I found one that looks pretty good, I don’t have Chrome, so I couldn’t test it, but you can try it and let me know what you think about it.

And welcome back to the States! Good to see you back. Will let you rest up, catch up, and tell us all about what God did on the African mission field before being too inquisitive concerning any picture you were able to take. Looking forward to your reports!

It was made by Jeffrey Friedl who has authored numerous Lightroom plugins. He made this online Exif Viewer because he couldn’t find one with all the features he was looking for.
I like this one because it can show the histogram from the photo, as well as a full sized preview without having to go to another page. Anyway, just wanted to let you all know about that!
