I love the first one!!! It’s so pretty!
For the gingerbread one I would do a closer crop so that it’s more house and less table/chair. Right now my attention kinda wants to shift from the house to the chair because it seems out of place so a closer crop would really just create that direction to the gingerbreadDecember 20, 2022 at 10:54 am #73910James StaddonKeymasterOh, it’s so fun to see your new photos from your new camera, @warrior-princess! Notice the increased contrast and color range? It’s subtle, but overall the quality is so much better! And wow, you’re in saguaro cactus country. I’ve always loved those legendary western cactus. 🙂
Heavenly-Vista-12-2022.jpg – Beautiful subject! Glad you had your camera for that one. Contrast between light and dark is so nice. The sky (on my computer) appears a bit blue-green instead of just blue, so that feels unnatural to me.
IMG_0005-2.jpg and Bravey2-Resized.jpg – The hair and nose are super tack sharp! I think you really want the eyes to be in focus, though, so can you figure out a way to change your focus points to focus where you want instead of where the camera randomly picks?
Close-Up1-Resized.jpg – What a cute gingerbread house! Can you maybe set it some place where a Christmas tree or something Christmassy is behind it? Nice job on having a Christmas-green runner under it!
Landscape1-Resized.jpg – Those mountains look so amazing! The tree doesn’t necessarily need to be front stage here, I’d say. Perhaps it could have been used as a frame on the right/top sides of the picture? It’s fine if it goes into silhouette. Also, I wonder if in your editing program you could skillfully remove the parking lot light poles?
Still-Life1-Resized.jpg – What a Christmassy feeling!! Pretty amazing your camera can almost shoot in the dark, eh? Have you experimented with White Balance at all yet? Is there one that would make it look less orange saturated? You still want the warm glow, though, that’s for sure. Just maybe not as saturated?
You look like you’re having fun! Keep it up.
December 22, 2022 at 8:25 pm #73968Warrior PrincessParticipant@tashavk Thanks so much for the constructive criticism! I will probably replace the background with a solid color or something, as I can’t retake pictures of the gingerbread house due to my dogs eating it! (I gave them permission since it’s Christmastime 😀 ).
December 22, 2022 at 8:50 pm #73969Warrior PrincessParticipant@jamesstaddon Thank you so much for your guidance! Yes, we live in Tucson Az, which is definitely cactus country. However, not being a fan of cactus, I find it hard to find the trees and grass I love so much to photograph. I will stick with capturing the beauty of the mountains here. 😀
Heavenly-Vista-12-2022.jpg Should I put it back in the photoshop and minimize the greens? Which function should I use to do that?
IMG_0005-2.jpg and Bravey2-Resized.jpg Thanks! Our dogs are great subjects. They always pose well. 🙂 Is it possible to get the eyes focused in Corel PaintShop Pro?
Close-Up1-Resized.jpg I think I will replace the background in my editing program.
Landscape1-Resized.jpg Yes! We are blessed with mountains on every side of Tucson- surrounding it like “The mountains surround Jerusalem”! I have a few more shots of different angles of this view, and one is with the tree framing the view. I will share that one.
Still-Life1-Resized.jpg I definitely was not pleased with editing outcome of this shot. I’ll try taking the saturation down. And, yes, I have experimented with White Balance and find it quite simple. I’ll tweak it in this photo.
December 22, 2022 at 9:25 pm #73970Warrior PrincessParticipantI found out with Landscape 3 Resized.jpg that I can use a clone tool to remove the parking lot lights. I do miss the AI erase removal tool in the Luminar program I returned, but even that has its errors, and you really can do better on the whole with a regular clone tool, I think.
What do you all think of these images?
December 22, 2022 at 10:17 pm #73975Warrior PrincessParticipantP. S. The noise in the last one (and lack of sharpness) really bothers me. I tried to do noise removal in Corel, but it didn’t work…
December 27, 2022 at 11:40 am #73993James StaddonKeymasterGood conclusion, @warrior-princess! That’s funny, that you let your dogs eat your gingerbread house. 🙂
You asked about “minimizing the greens in Photoshop” If I understand correctly, you don’t have Lightroom. But, do you have Photoshop?
As for sharpening out of focus areas in a photo, no, there is no current technology in any program (that I am aware of) that would enable sharpening of out-of-focus areas.
It’s so much better with the parking lot lights removed! You almost can’t tell they were even there.
And good, you fixed the greenish hue in the sky.
December 28, 2022 at 7:06 pm #74017Warrior PrincessParticipant@jamesstaddon I didn’t mean Photoshop, haha. I meant PaintShop Pro (the Corel software that went with my camera bundle).

January 7, 2023 at 9:19 pm #74162Warrior PrincessParticipantWhat do you think about the last picture, @jamesstaddon ? What should I do to better it?
January 10, 2023 at 4:32 pm #74170James StaddonKeymasterI think the place to start would be to combat the noise. It appears that a high ISO was used in order for a fast enough shutter speed to be used so it could be hand held. If instead of hand-holding it, you put it on a tripod, or laid it on a sturdy surface, I bet you could use a much slower tripod (one that would make the photo blurry if it was hand-held), thus allowing the ISO to be much lower, solving the grainy issue.
January 10, 2023 at 8:03 pm #74175Warrior PrincessParticipantThanks, James!! That helps a lot 🙂
