Did you use a flash? It might be cause of the fast shutter speed. What was the ISO set at? It could also be just being in the woods.
If you have a chance you could try something like 1/200 or 1/250 with like F/8.These are just ideas so play around with the shutter speed and aperture till you get one you like!

AV (aperture mode) is a semi-automatic mode, so when the camera sees lots of bright white snow it might say “whoa! too much light!” and bump up your shutter speed or bump down the iso to avoid having bring white patches in the picture. Of course, snow is bright and white, but the camera may not know that. It is only so smart, after all. 🙂
January 16, 2018 at 3:57 pm #28325Sarah LewisParticipantNo, I didn’t use flash and my ISO was 400. It was so bright out that it looked like my pics were fine but when I got inside they were really dark. Hence the lighter edit. 😀 (I might enjoy editing too much but the results can be very nice.) So I might try again when it gets over 7 degrees @ our house. 😀

I’ll plan on talking about your beautiful shot on the webinar tonight! http://www.lenspiration.com/photo-critique-with-lenspiration-jan-16/
January 16, 2018 at 4:08 pm #28329Sarah LewisParticipantYes, kind of. I’ve taken a few photography classes from a friend who’s really good too so I know the basics of the settings. Dad’s taught me some too! 🙂
January 16, 2018 at 9:20 pm #28342Sarah LewisParticipantIs this any better on the swirl in the ice @jamesstaddon? I cropped and lightened it a little too. 🙂
January 18, 2018 at 12:59 pm #28399James StaddonKeymasterYes. I just love those textured lines! If ever you need access to it, the webinar replay is available here: https://www.lenspiration.com/video/webinar011618/

First pic: If you composed the leaf off center, it might make a good submission for a Sharpening Character STS assignment one of these days!
Second pic: Nice pattern. I’d suggest getting down on “eye level” with it.
Third pic: I’d try blocking the sun partially with the edge of the barn to cut some of the glare. Maybe find an angle where the sun isn’t interrupted by the trees too.

January 19, 2018 at 8:48 pm #28525Sarah LewisParticipantNever mind about that last question, I figured it out. 😀
