Beautiful location! Love the intense, morning light. I’ve shot here in winter many times before and I have to say it’s not easy to get a clean, uncluttered shot. 🙂

I like the B&W rendition for this very reason; it appears much less cluttered. In the first shot the cabin to the left is too noticeable for some reason.

Perhaps getting down a little lower would help block out more of the trees in the background and include more blue sky. Just a thought.

Really like the B&W rendition, actually. The more I look at it the more I like it. 🙂 This shot just works in B&W.

Thanks James! You’re right, the buildings are so close together there that it is difficult to photograph one by itself! Here’s a couple more shots I took that morning.

Ah, very nice. Especially the second one. I feel the rock is a bit too close to the left side of the frame and cropped off the bottom a hair too much. It’s nice deep snow, and practically undisturbed and well exposed. Don’t forget the two dust bunnies in the top left corner.

Yes, I see what you’re saying. The original image shows more of the rock at the bottom. I felt the cabins needed straightened a bit, but when I straightened them, it resulted in unwanted cropping of the bottom part of the rock. Here is the image un-straightened. (and, oh yes, un-dustbunnied as well 🙂 )

I straighten my pictures out all the time, and have had the same thing happen to me. Many times. 🙂 I now use one of these handy little spirit levels when I’m shooting from a tripod: http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Double-Bubble-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000YJ2Q9U/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1421345341&sr=8-6&keywords=spirit+level+camera

They do pop off easily, so it might be worth it to buy an extra or two.
