ParticipantI’m interested in writing a plug-in for Lightroom Classic. I would like to make a plug-in similar to the Adobe stock plug-in but for my other stock sites. I’ve found an article that I should be able to follow. The problem is I don’t know anything about designing programs.
So here’s my first question: how do I “contact my system admin”? That’s what I suppose to do so I can download the program from adobe that helps with writing plug-ins. According to the article, downloading the “Admin SDK – Insights API” is the first step.Thank you for any help!

KeymasterOh boy, sounds exciting! Hopefully @buddingphotographer, @dfrazer, or @nasa will be able to answer that question for you?

ModeratorI’d love to help, but I’ve never done any LR plugin coding, so I’m afraid I can’t help much. 🙁
I would recommend not testing your plugin on your good LR installation. You don’t want to corrupt your catalog!July 27, 2021 at 6:07 pm #63936Blessings Captured

I can use Any help I can get! I’m new at coding anything.

Can you have two copies of LR on one computer? Or is it sufficient to just have a second catalog?

In that case, you might want to consider starting with something easier than a LR plugin. 🙂 Seriously though, if you’re dead-set on making a LR plugin, I’d advise that you start out by copying exactly what your tutorial shows, (even if you have no use for the plugin). That will give you a little experience and confidence with making a basic plugin, and you can test it to make sure it actually works. After that, maybe you’ll be better equipped to branch out into unknown territory.

Probably not, but I don’t know!
Or is it sufficient to just have a second catalog?
Definitely use a “test” catalog, rather than your main one. And make lots of backups.

I might be wrong, but I don’t think you need the “Admin SDK – Insights API”. I was able to access the download for The Adobe Lightroom Classic SDK by searching for “lightroom” here, and clicking on download.

ParticipantThank you @buddingphotographer! I was able to download the LR SDK, the zip folder is called “LR_10.0_202010011851-ef6045e0.release_SDK”. It comes with a manual which will be very helpful.
That’s a good idea to copy exactly what the tutorial shows for their plug-in. I’ll have to see if I can figure it out.

ModeratorPerfect! That’s a start! Do keep us posted on your progress if you’d like. I, for one, am intensely interested in the results! I’d love to do some coding like that myself someday, but I have too many other irons in the fire right now. 🙂

KeymasterUpdating myself on this thread. Thank you @buddingphotographer for helping out here. In answer to your question @blessingscaptured, “Can you have two copies of LR on one computer? Or is it sufficient to just have a second catalog?”, I would definitely say stick with one LR subscription, and then create as many catalogs as you please! I do this. I have many catalogs for various reasons (though one main catalog for my main photography). Just be aware that only one of those catalogs can be synced with Lightroom online.
