I’m finding it really enlightening that y’all are suggesting lenses with such a minimal zoom…. Since I don’t do much nature/landscape photography, this is really helpful to hear!

Hey @blake, the colorful specs are hot pixels that appear due to long exposures. Cambridge In Colour calls it “Fixed pattern noise” http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/image-noise.htm

Do you have a program like Lightroom? Some programs are able to detect and remove this type of noise.

The clouds look like strokes of paint on a canvas, @blake! I can only imagine how awesome that sunset was. I LOVE sunsets too!

In this situation, I probably would have seen what I could do to include a little more silhouette foreground, all the way across the bottom.

You said about what I would have said about the noise issue, @Dan-Cope! 🙂

I would also add that if I were you, @blake I would open up the aperture a bit; f/16 is way overkill for night skies. Since it’s so dark, you need to let in more light, I would say f/4 would be a better choice for night skies, or even lower, if you have the option!

not the best image quality but in this case it ads a good effect

I hadn’t thought of it that way, @blake, but perhaps my aging eyes are missing something! I would be interested in having you explain further why you feel it is not the best image quality and how that creates a good effect.
