SUMMARY:CAPTURE Alaska
DESCRIPTION:Tuition\n\nEarly Registration by July 21: $845/photographer\nGeneral Registration: $945/photographer\nVisit the CAPTURE Overall Details page for more details\n\nAttendance\n\nMaximum attendance: 8 photographers\nMinimum attendance: 3 photographers\nWorkshop will be canceled or postponed if minimum attendance is not reached\nCurrent spots available: 5 photographers\n\nDestinations\nThere is no limit to the number of places we could visit to get beautiful images up here. Excellent shooting locations include Eklutna Lake\, Independence Gold Mine\, Archangel Valley\, Reflection Lake\, Matanuska Glacier\, overlooks along the Turn Again arm and Eagle River Falls. \n  \n\n\n\n\nArchangle Valley – There’s only so far you can go in a vehicle in Alaska. Most tourists stop at the scenic overlooks along paved highways. Others venture a little further till the dirt roads begin. Archangle Valley is where the dirt roads start to peter off. This incredibly scenic\, un-populated area gives photographers the chance to view the wonder of alpine terrain without having to hike for miles and miles into the back-country.\n\n\n\nTurnagain Arm – The Seward Highway passes right along this long passage of water from which walls of mountains rise on either side. Because the channel empties out toward the west\, it’s an excellent place to catch the sunset on the horizon while still being surrounded by mountains. The highway offers easily accessible spots to shoot the sunset\, as well as parks and trails which lead off the beaten path for more original vantage points.\n\n\n\nIndependence Mine – There are plenty of old buildings and historic artifacts to keep a photography lost in his work for hours. The old gold mine is surrounded by mountains on three sides. Because of the abundance of subjects and close proximity of the mountains\, this is a good place to shoot if the weather decides to cloudy up\, like it often does unpredictably.\n\n\n\nMatanuska River Valley – The mountains are especially interesting along the Glen Highway as it meanders through the Matanuska Valley on it’s way to the eastern border. A day spent driving and hiking in these parts can be very rewarding\, though again\, it all depends on the weather. From my experience\, the clouds can reduce the mountain landscape to what appears to be a hardwood plane without much warning. But that’s when you start praying for a break in the clouds on the horizon . . .\n\n\n\nParks Highway – As weather and time allows\, we will venture north on the Parks Highway for a possible overlook of Mt. McKinley.\n\n\n\n\nTransportation\nAttendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Workshop Location. However\, airport runs to and from Anchorage International Airport (ANC) before and after the workshop may be available upon prearranged agreement. To check for availability or make a request\, please contact James at james@lenspiration.com or 203-721-0363. \nLodging\nLodging is available at the Gilliland’s home for Sunday through Saturday nights on a first-come\, first-served basis. While on-location and comfortable\, accommodations will be cozy and close-quarters\, perhaps as basic as a cot and sleeping bag. Sleeping arrangements for guys and girls will be separated. Please contact James at james@lenspiration.com or 203-721-0363 to ask for availability and submit a request. More spacious accommodations are available at your own expense at nearby hotels. Though not necessarily highly rated\, the Microtel Inn & Suites and Eagle River Motel are possible lodging locations in the vicinity. \nMeals\nWholesome\, home-cooked meals will be provided for the majority of the workshop. Some meals may be taken at local restaurants near shooting destinations. \nClothing\nBring clothing for both warm and cool temperatures. Alaska weather is unpredictable! Average August temperatures in this part of Alaska are High 65\, Low 45 and it may dip below freezing at high altitudes.  We will be out before sunrise each morning which is the coldest part of the day\, so please dress accordingly. Dress in layers and make sure to bring stuff to keep you and your gear dry in the field in case it rains. August is the beginning of the rainy season. For more details on what to bring\, visit the CAPTURE Overall Details page. \nMore Details\n\nVisit the CAPTURE Overall Details page for more detailed information regarding specific topics covered\, generic schedule of each day\, required items to bring\, limitations on age and physical conditions\, exactly what to bring\, and everything that is and is not included with your tuition.\nAnyone is welcome to stay Saturday night if it fits better into their travel schedule. Typical nightly fee applies.\nFeel free to join us for a church service with the Gillilands on Saturday morning.\nSpread the word by downloading this printable PDF brochure.\n\nQuestions?\nDon’t hesitation to drop questions on the Workshops Q&A forum! To contact James directly\, visit the Contact page or call (203) 721-03631.
