SUMMARY:CAPTURE Kansas
DESCRIPTION:Tuition\n\nGeneral Registration: $399/photographer\nEarly Discount: First 4 individual photographers receive $50 off per photographer!\nGroup Discount: Groups of 2 or more receive a total of $100 off per photographer!\nCAPTURE Alumni: Coupon available for an additional $50 off per photographer!\n\nAttendance\n\nMaximum attendance: 8\nCurrent spots available: 7\n\nRequirements\n\n15 years or older\nPhysical ability to be on your feet for many hours in a day\n“Beyond the basics” to intermediate skill level\nPersonal DSLR camera\, tripod\, laptop computer\, and image editing software\n\nSchedule\n\nThursday: Start with brunch\, classroom training during the day\, visit a shooting destination for sunset\nFocus of the day: How to shoot comfortably in Manual mode\nFriday: Visit a second shooting destination for sunrise\, classroom and software training during the day\,  visit a third shooting destination for sunset.\nFocus of the day: How to organize your pictures and keep them organized\nSaturday: Visit a fourth shooting destination for sunrise\, classroom and critique during the day\, visit a finale shooting destination for the afternoon and sunset.\nFocus of the day: Learning to “see” and putting composition technique into practice\n\nDestinations\nExactly when we’ll shoot at what destinations is based on many factors unknown until the actual week of the workshop. However\, potential locations could include the following: \n\n\n\n\nKonza Prairie – This location offers the best views of the natural landscape of Kansas that I know of!  Hiking trails wind through lowland gallery forest\, cross Kings Creek\, and climb over ancient limestone ledges into the native tallgrass prairie.  At the highest points\, enjoy spectacular views of the Flint Hills and the Kansas River Valley.\n\n\n\nThe Old Stone Church – Dedicated in 1882 as a Mission Church\, services were held here until 1905. Standing alone in the countryside\, the church is now a picturesque monument to the spiritual devotion of our forefathers.\n\n\n\nPillsbury Crossing – Pillsbury Crossing is a natural limestone slab that was used by pioneers to cross Deep Creek. The ledge terminates in a waterfall about 40 feet wide and with a drop of about 5 feet. For Kansas\, that’s pretty impressive!\n\n\n\nKansas State Capitol Building – With a dome taller than the United States Capitol\, an interior ornately fashioned over 37 years of construction\, and giant murals covering walls and ceilings\, this location poses both fascinating and challenging photographic opportunities unique to Kansas.\n\n\n\nNative Stone Scenic Byway – The winding byway\, which cuts through the rolling terrain of the eastern Flint Hills\, provides a chance to photograph the simple\, more subtle hues and nuances of the Kansas countryside.\n\n\n\nOld Architecture – There are several private\, abandoned architectural structures that special permission has been granted to photograph during the workshop. This provides special diversity impossible to capture outside of the workshop.\n\n\n\nLake Shawnee –  Though surrounded by city parks and a golf course\, this recreational hot-spot is a surprisingly good location for landscape and wildlife photography. The trick is going when no one else is around . . . in the quiet of the early morning.\n\n\n\nTed Ensley Gardens – Located on the west side of scenic Lake Shawnee\, this special park provides panoramic views of the lake and a beautiful setting to photograph a wealth of design ideas and spectacular plantings. The gardens span an area of nearly 20 acres.\n\n\n\nTransportation\n\nTransportation during the workshop is provided.\nTransportation to/from the workshop is not provided.\nAirport run to/from Kansas City International Airport available upon prearranged agreement.\nBe considerate of the dates and times your flights are scheduled to arrive and depart. Wednesday and Sunday afternoons are the best times to schedule your flight. Please submit your requests for airport runs to Tom Lindsay at doctorsql@gmail.com.\n\nLodging\n\nThere is limited room available for free on a first-come\, first-served basis for Wednesday through Saturday nights.\nSleeping arrangements for guys and girls will be separated.\nSuggested donation: $25/night\, collected at time of arrival.\nPlease contact Tom Lindsay at doctorsql@gmail.com to inquire about availability and submit a request.\n\nMeals\n\nWholesome\, home-cooked meals will be provided for the majority of the workshop on a brunch schedule: a mid morning breakfast and a late afternoon dinner.\nSome meals may be taken at local restaurants near shooting destinations.\n\nClothing\n\nBring clothing for cool temperatures. Dress in layers.\nAverage October temperatures in this part of Kansas are High 62\, Low 39 and it may very well dip below freezing.\nWe will be out before sunrise each morning which is the coldest part of the day\, so please dress accordingly. \nBring stuff to keep you and your gear dry in the field in case it rains.\nModest attire is always in style.\n\nMore Details\n\nAll are welcome to attend the Lindsay’s church on Sunday morning.\nThe CAPTURE Details page provides overall information regarding specific topics covered\, generic schedule of each day\, suggested items to bring\, and more details on is and is not included with your tuition.\n\nQuestions?\nDon’t hesitation to drop questions on the Workshops Q&A forum! To contact James directly\, visit the Contact page or call (203) 721-03631.
