Welcome to the Secrets to Photo Editing Course! I am so looking forward to learning all about editing photos together! Perhaps you’re wondering…how much should I edit my photos? Do I even need to edit photos? Do I even need to take photos with DSLR any more?!
Well, that’s what this course is all about, and what we’re going to talk about in this first lesson! So, let’s get started!
As I mentioned, I will be presenting everything with Lightroom, but if you have a different photo editing software you can take the principles I share and apply them in your program!
Additionally, we’re not going to be specifically talking about an editing workflow in this course. If you don’t have an editing workflow and would like to learn about mine, you can watch this video here. Secrets to Photo Editing is focused on basic adjustments you should be making to your photos and tools to use to tweak photos to perfection!
Assignment
- If you do not already have a photo editing program on your computer, be sure to download one before you go any farther. You can review the material in Section 5 of the Foundations Course to determine which program works for you. For additional information, watch “Choosing a Photo Editing Program“. As we go through this course, I am going to assume that you have an editing program you can be using for each lesson.
- Choose 10 of your photos that you can edit as we go through this course. Each lesson will have an assignment on adjustments you should be making to your selected photos. Choose photos with the following qualities:
- An underexposed photo
- An overexposed photo
- A high-contrast photo (as defined here)
- A photo taken at midday
- A photo taken at sunset/sunrise
- A portrait photo (could be an individual, a family, or a couple)
- An architectural photo
- A landscape photo
- A close-up, nature photo
- A photo taken at night
