I absolutely love taking photos of beautiful flowers and do it quite often, so I was really excited to see the topic for this assignment! Although most of these are from my archive, I did take a couple photos of our elderberry bushes and roses.

I use Picasa and Nikon Transfer ViewNX2 and between both of them, I can generally get the effects I’m going for. My Nikon software came with my camera years ago and it does a really good job…I probably ended up paying for it after all when I bought my gear. 🙂

Thank you for your advice – those are great things to think about when buying a new lens.

What a neat way to keep track of all the focal lengths from picture to picture! I haven’t looked yet, but I’m just guessing my free software does not have that feature. 🙂

I’m curious to find out what your favorite/most used lens is and why you like it…?

I agree with you on slowly investing in other lenses and would love to invest in additional lenses with lower aperture numbers in the future (yes, that is why I love my 50mm!). For the time being, I can’t afford spending a lot of money on one lens…

I also have a D3100, @lydiabennett! Did you get yours refurbished or new? You would really love the 50mm lens! I had the 18-55 and 55-200 for a while before getting the 50mm and it’s my favorite. There was a huge difference in image quality!

Thank you for pointing that out! That’s what I have heard about the focal length, as well… I think I would rather have better image quality rather than focal length, personally… With that said, I’ll plan to get the 18-140mm.

Most of my equipment is from this company and I always get refurbished. It works great for me! 🙂

Thank you for your reply! I guess I haven’t thought of it much, nor work with RAW photos, so I wouldn’t know much of the differences between JPEG and RAW. Now that you’ve opened my eyes to the major differences though, I’m going to start learning about it. Do you always shoot RAW photos? And would you recommend shooting JPEG or RAW for portraits?

Sorry to ask another question 🙂 , but I was taking a look at Adorama and found a 35mm lens + a Nikon kit for just a few dollars more than the 50mm… Would you still recommend me getting the 50mm or the 35mm? Is the 35mm any better than the 50mm or not?
