Hi @kansasgirl! As @nateb said, there are a lot of factors making it hard to diagnose long-distance, but my first advice would be exactly what @loganlamar said. When shooting in full Manual, keep an eye on the light meter (it can also be called the “exposure compensation indicator”) and use the three settings (aperture, shutter speed, and ISO) to…Read more

@nateb Ah, ok! Thanks for clearing that up, that’s why I didn’t recognize it. Ok, I will definitely do that! I might also look into a tripod, as well.

Thank you both for your responses!

@loewfam I’m not sure what VR is, so I don’t know if my equipment has it. I use an EOS Rebel T7 with a 18-55 mm lens and a 75-300 mm lens. Typically, when I try to use a lower shutter speed than 1/500, I end up with a blurry picture. I would love some articles if you have any links! I also just need to go out…Read more

@nateb So, depending on the shot, most of the time I will use between a F5.6 (which is as low as my lens goes) to about a F11 aperture, and at least a 1/500 shutter speed, sometimes more. Hopefully that is enough info.

I’ll have to look into cloud storage for an extra backup. Thank you for mentioning it.

That is good to know that corrupted files aren’t very common.

There is really only one rule when it comes to storage: have more than one copy. Everything man namde can fail in this fallen world, so ideally you should have more than one copy on more than one medium in more than one location.

Beyond that it all depends how much you are willing to pay to keep your photos. As @nateb mentioned, cloud storage…Read more

I am glad you were able to help, @nateb! Having very little experience with mirrorless cameras (let alone, the specific ones you were discussing), I think it was good you were able to help @cowgirlforchrist15 narrow things down.

@cowgirlforchrist15, the one thought I had about “moving from DSLR to mirrorless” is that lenses don’t automatically…Read more

Hi @abigail16! It seems you’ve figured out the aperture trick for sunstars! Good job! (and welcome to Lenspiration by the way!)

I think you (@abigail16) and @nateb might be referring to two different phenomena here. Abby, in your photos, you’ve narrowed your aperture and partially occluded the sun in order to get the “sun-star” effect (which is…Read more
