If you haven’t already done so, it might be helpful to step through the lessons in the Foundations of Photography Course, Factors to Look for in a Lens, and Scenario: Buying a Lens. Those might help you narrow down some of your options and give you a better understanding of how to make this decision.

What lens came with your camera, that you currently have?

I bought this a couple years ago, but it didn’t work well for what I needed. I’d suspect if you are in a more controlled noise environment it could be fine, but for the projects I was doing it picked up too much ambient noise. It also seemed a little….cheap?

A little dinged up but still in great condition. Works well, I just don’t use it anymore since I have a good tripod I default to. 🙂

When you’re talking about light shade, are you referring to the edge of shade where people can still see the sky above them?

Yep! That way there’s still plenty of light but not direct sunlight ON them.
