As @nateb said, there are a lot of factors making it hard to diagnose long-distance, but my first advice would be exactly what @loganlamar said. My thoughts were along the lines of the comments that @loganlamar made, so I won’t be redundant. But in a nutshell, it looks like you’ve got the starburst technique down pretty well so I’d just work on improving composition in the photos! Keep practicing!

I’d forgotten about the aperture trick, never having used it myself.

Is this technique often used when subjects and scenes (i.e. landscapes) do not have much colour?

I’d answer that with “sometimes”!

I used to shoot products for a guitar case manufacturer. I shot a lot of black guitar cases :). If the guitar case was solely black and white then, and any color introduced by the camera (chromatic…Read more

One thing I aim for when I’m editing is to have the photo leave the editing process looking exactly as the…Read more

the feeling I am trying to convey with the image

capture a particular feeling or moment

I guess if the motive for taking a picture is to capture the feeling or emotion in a particular scene, editing out distractions or adding certain effects for enhancement would be fine.

@joshua_ong, I think the answer is that it all depends on your genre and the purpose of your photo.

If I am shooting for a newspaper or an event, I really don’t want to be doing a lot of Photoshop work at all.
For instance, I don’t know how many of you have been watching the news lately, but let’s say I visited the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest…Read more

I’ve done a lot of research on this, tried a number of free trial programs, and I think I may have found where I’m going to settle down for a long while.
I’ve been very very pleased with On1. I think it’s quite close to Lightroom in terms of features both in editing and in browsing, but it’s a much better deal in my opinion and you’ll…Read more
