ParticipantI’ve recently begun shooting in RAW format, but the photos won’t open up in GIMP or load onto MailChimp. I saw there are several GIMP users here, so I was wondering, do any of you know how to open them in GIMP? I’ve had to go back to shooting in JPEG until I figure this issue out.

ModeratorGIMP is mainly for photo retouching: cloning, local edits, etc… You don’t want to use GIMP for your main RAW editor. If your budget is limited, RawTherapee is what you need for a RAW editor. If you’re wealthy, Lightroom is the golden standard of photo editing. 🙂
See here for a full length tutorial of RawTherapee: https://youtube.com/watch?v=bDXVpoXDtj0

ParticipantHi @ephillips!
Lightroom is maybe the gold standard that everyone uses… but it is expensive, and you’ll pay for it month to month.
I use On1 Photo Raw. In my experience, it’s very good… maybe not as close to Lightroom (especially if you’re wanting to share editable versions with other photographers) but definitely holding its own.
At the risk of sounding like an ad… it IS 50% off right now…

$50 one time, if you want to upgrade in 2021, you’ll pay for the new version. But a very good and cheaper alternative in my opinion.Check it out.

ParticipantThanks, @loganlamar! I’ll look into it soon! I’ll probably end up going with Lightroom in the next couple of months as I like to stay with what I’m familiar with, but I definitely look into On1.

KeymasterIf it’s of any help (and if you haven’t already seen it), @ephillips, here’s a video I made that compares On1 with Lightroom, as well as Luminar, another rising star in the photo editing industry: https://www.lenspiration.com/video/editing-program/
