Lydia BennettKeymasterWho We’re Shooting For: Jemima Lane (a Lenspiration Member)
What She Needs: A photo for the front cover of a recipe book she’s creating. If there are other suitable photos, she may also choose them as section heading photos. Photos may also be used for advertising.
Request: Currently, Jemima is thinking of a mother baking/cooking with her kids (preferably without faces). However, she’s open to any creative ideas to give the impression of homeschool families cooking, so feel free to take your own spin on the idea!
Special Instructions: The image should be eye-catching so it will really help the book stand out and attract buyers. Also, models should be dressed modestly, and women/girls should be wearing skirts/dresses.
Orientation: Square
Photo Specs: Photos should be minimum 2700px on the long edge. When uploading your photos, please submit both an edited version and the original, unedited version.
Assignment Award: In order to be eligible to receive an award, you must be a Lenspiration member. If the winner is outside of New Zealand, they will receive an e-book of the completed book. If the winner is a New Zealander, they will receive a paper copy of the completed book. Any additional winners will receive the e-book as well.
Deadline: Friday, March 6, 2026
HOW TO SUBMIT: You may submit up to 10 photos. Upload both your edited, high-resolution photos and original photos at this link. Optional: Create a small version of your edited photo(s) to share & discuss with the Lenspiration community on this forum thread.

Lydia BennettKeymasterThe attached photos are ones that Jemima has not chosen for the cover, but they give some inspiration of the general idea she’s looking for.

Lydia BennettKeymasterThinking through some more questions I’d have if I was going to shoot this assignment, Jemima…
– What types of recipes are you including in the book? Baking vs cooking? What types of ingredients, cooking utensils, and cookware should be included in the photos? Or is there a broad variety within the book and so any type of baking or cooking would be fine?
– Do you have any color schemes in your book design that it would be helpful to have included in the photos?
– Is there a book title that would be helpful to bear in mind for shooting the photos?
– Do you need negative space included in the photo so there’s room for text design? If so, do you already have a layout in mind that should be considered when taking the photos, or are you planning to work your layout around the chosen photo?

Loewen FamilyParticipantThese are some good questions, @lenspirationlydia! I especially was wondering about the first one—if it’s going to be more cooking or baking in the book.

Laura LaneParticipantHi @lenspirationlydia and @loewfam
Ok, so the book has a very broad variety of recipes, so anything would be fine, just don’t make it so specific that people think “that looks yum, where’s the recipe?”.
No, there aren’t any schemes in the book. What I am planning on calling the book will be something like “Homeschoolers’ recipe book”.
And yes, it would be good to leave space for text, I haven’t planned out where it will go though.
If anyone else has any further questions, feel free to ask!

ParticipantHello! Here are the pictures that we were able to take for this assignment. We weren’t sure if we would be able to help with this one, but it worked out at the last minute. Because we didn’t have any young models for the mother/child concept, we tried to capture sisters cooking together. A few of the pictures only have one person or are just a creative shot of food.

Loewen FamilyParticipantSo beautiful, @parrisfamily and @blessingscaptured!
I tried once to shoot this assignment, but I didn’t have very good lighting and the few pictures I did get didn’t turn out well, sadly. But so glad a few people were able to submit some good pictures!! Hope you get something you love, Jemima!

Lydia BennettKeymasterThank you SO much for photographing this assignment, @blessingscaptured and @parrisfamily! I sent the photos off to Jemima, so we’ll see what she thinks!

Lydia BennettKeymasterCongratulations are in order for @parrisfamily on having two photos chosen! One photo will be for the front cover, and the other for a section header.
Again, many thanks to you as well as @blessingscaptured for being a blessing to Jemima and submitting these photos!
