ParticipantSeriously, y’all can tell me… Does this look stupid?? 😂 So I saw a pic like this once and I had to give it a try. I literally had no idea what I was doing. 😬😂 I don’t usually like to edit that much, but I couldn’t drop the leaves and the camera and press the button on the remote at the same time, so I had to edit the leaves in. There’s a pic of me taking it, too. Lol! The laundry basket! 🤨😂
Let me know what you think!October 28, 2021 at 8:50 pm #66062Ruth
ParticipantLOL!!!🤣 Never seen photography so much fun!!! Looks like something I would come up with in my kitchen! lol!! 😂 I think if it was not pointed downward maybe just strait forward or to the side a little would look better??? It looks like it’s falling (like it is not). lol! Or if the snaps (what ever those things are on the side) weren’t flying in the wind? Love the laundry basket picture!! You totally look like your a county girl!! lol! 😃

ParticipantThanks, @esther! Good point! I’ll go back through my pics and see if I can find one where the camera’s facing forward. I totally didn’t even think about the snap things until after I took the pictures! 😭😄 Yes, I totally should have taken them off. Yeah, I couldn’t think of anything else so the laundry basket kinda just worked! Lol!! 😂
Thanks so much!! 😃October 30, 2021 at 9:58 am #66073William Frazer
ParticipantDSC_4531234-3.jpg is really classic; the closer crop does eliminate distraction from that leaf on the left. Highly successful! Also the photoshopping job is very well done; it’s very hard to see that it actually is photoshopped.
And the camera straps flapping in the breeze do give the (true) impression that the camera is actually falling. If you would have taken a studio pic of the camera and photoshopped it in, it would look a little ‘frozen in space,’ and very fake. As is, the picture looks very genuine.
One slight thing I might comment on is the slight reddish hue. (Compare DSC_45312.jpg and DSC_4531234.jpg for comparison) Maybe if the hue were slightly more yellowish, it would make the whole image look warmer, more friendly. As is, it is a little bit too red (imho).
Over all, very well done.

ParticipantThank you, @cheesestick! Yay! I am not good at editing so I’m glad it looked ok. That’s awesome that you don’t think the straps look weird… I totally wasn’t even thinking about them when I took the picture! 😂
Good point about the color. It is very red. I’m glad you said that… Something looked “off” but I couldn’t figure out what it was! 😄 Prolly the color then.

KeymasterI wouldn’t be surprised if the person who photographed the photo that inspired your shot had no idea what they were doing either. 😀
It looks authentic…because it is. The camera is literally falling. I would be curious to know, how did you capture it mid-frame like that, in focus? And the leaves are literally falling. They are not photoshopped in. It’s simply two authentic photos merged together. That’s impressive.
I would agree with @cheesestick that including the straps adds a lot to the photo. They give the absolutely necessary element of implied movement.
It’s interesting the difference that the crop makes. The one less cropped gives the impression that this is a scene; as though I’m looking out my living room window on an exceedingly blustery day and see a camera falling with leaves from a nearby tree. There is an increased awareness of the camera’s hovering state, and the story of the photo centers more on the oddity of the situation.
The cropped version tells a story centered more around intangibles. Concepts like “fall photography”, or “let loose with your autumn photography”. It’s a concretely creative and artistically abstract approach to saying without words that autumn is an extraordinarily fun time for photography. “Get out there and make the most of it.” Without question, I could see this photo being used in Minolta advertising.
I might crop it a little differently, with less sky above and more grass below. Still personal, but more intentional. And, may have processed it a bit differently too, for my personal tastes.
But overall, this is exceptional. Nothing else like it out there on stock that I could find.

ParticipantThank you so much, @jamesstaddon!
Wow! Those edits make a huge difference! Definitely a better crop, for sure.
Actually, that was a lot of my trouble taking the photo… getting it mid-frame! 😄 I set my focus to the middle of the laundry basket and then just dropped it where I thought it would be in focus. As for getting it mid-frame… I guessed on my timing and took hundreds and hundreds of photos! Lol!! 😂
Yay! I guess I’m glad I left the straps then! I definitely wasn’t thinking of them when I took the pics.
Thank you so much!! Can’t wait to play with the editing a little more. Very helpful to have different perspectives on it! 🙂

Participant@abbygeorge Good work! I think the editing/cropping that @jamesstaddon suggested looks like a full-page magazine add. I’m curious what became of the project and if you ever did additional editing or additional photos.
