ModeratorI’m interested to know if anyone else knows anything about this lens! I recently got it as a gift, and so far, I’ve been quite impressed! Of course, considering the Focal Length Range, it’s got to have some compromises, but overall, I would say it’s just as good as my Canon 18-55 IS II kit lens. The autofocus is WAY more silent, and on the whole, quite accurate. The wide end does seems to be a little soft… 🙁
I also like the looks! Mounted on my camera, it looks much more “professional” with the larger lens and tulip lens hood on. I think the reason it looks better is the larger diameter filter mount which translates to a larger diameter lens overall. All my previous lenses were 58mm or smaller. (My old Zenit lens’s is 52mm)
The stabilization is one point that seems a little buggy. It works just fine for it’s intended purpose, but I now have quite a delay when switching my camera on/off. It somehow creates a delay, and also it makes an audible and “feel-able” click when you turn it on/off.
Oh, and how could I have improved my “product shot”? 🙂

KeymasterI’ve never used the lens before, but I’d be curious to know how fast the focusing is and how sharp the pictures are, especially zoomed in.
the-digital-picture.com, where I go first for camera reviews didn’t have much on it. However, Bob Atkins seemed to have some good details on it: http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/reviews/sigma_18-250_f35-63_dc_os_macro_hsm.html
Hope it fairs well for you! You’ll be able to compare it to other lenses as you continue to develop your camera bag. You can’t turn down a free lens though.

ModeratorHere are a few sample pictures taken in Africa with my new lens!
Note that not all of them are cookies and cream. The picture of the springbok (antelope) reflections has severe softness at the edges of the frame. If you open it fullscreen, you can see that it’s quite blurry, especially on the right edge.

KeymasterWhat an amazing opportunity to shoot that type of wildlife!

KeymasterCool pictures. I love taking pictures of camera equipment. 🙂 Why do you have to get rid of it?

ModeratorWell, I have a new camera now, and unfortunately, Pentax doesn’t accept Canon mount lenses. 🙁
I don’t really need the Canon now, since I have a much better camera, so the lens will go with it if I ever do actually sell it.

ParticipantWhat would you be willing to sell this lens for?

KeymasterOh, I see @buddingphotographer. I bet you have a lot of fun buying, using, and selling off equipment like you do. I love your equipment reviews!

Moderator@tjons: What would you be willing to sell this lens for?
Well, I guess $300 was about the price that I was thinking of. It is hardly used, seeing as I’ve only had it for about 6 months. I was hoping to sell it in a kit with the camera, but as long as I can sell the camera with it’s basic kit lens, I guess that will work.

ParticipantSure. Where are you planning to sell your Canon equipment? Ebay? I have sold gear there and find it relatively easy.

ModeratorSo far I haven’t really thought about it that much, I was planning just to find someone local to sell it to, but nothing seems to be working out. I thought I’d probably advertise it on Craigslist for a while, and see what happens. I’ve never tried selling on Ebay, don’t they charge like 10% of the selling price?
