I am experiencing trouble being able to see pictures I have downloaded onto my laptop. I believe I was shooting in RAW Format and the files extension is .CR2 instead of .JPG. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem and/or how to avoid this from happening again?

To convert your photos from RAW to JPG, try an app like this: https://raw.pics.io/ As far as I can tell, it’s a free service, but there may be a quantity limit. If so, it’s $1.99 to get a full month of converting files.
You could also try converting them through a free 7-day trial of Lightroom. Lightroom reads RAW files, so basically, if you have a trial version, then you can import the RAW files into Lightroom, edit them if you want to, and then export them as JPG files (which should then be viewable on your computer).

Since you have a Canon camera, the software that came with your camera would be
Canon Digital Photo Professional
. If you go to this page, and put in your camera model number it will give you a link to download it if you don’t have the disk that came with your camera.See here for tips on batch processing with DPP: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3089886
