First, this is a happy note to say an extra thanks to @jamesstaddon, @buddingphotographer, and @dancope for their help some months ago when I was shooting a CD cover for my sister! She ended up going for a simple look, with just the harp on the front cover. And I’ve since realized that the simplicity beautifully complements the overall message of the CD. 🙂
I also owe a vote of thanks to both @jamesstaddon and @shilohphotography for their help with product photography! After the CDs arrived it was soon time for product pics. And I’m quite excited to see the improvement, thanks to your input! I’m looking forward to re-doing nearly all our product pics – but that will be for another day. 🙂 Below is a sample product pic.
Have a blessed evening!
P.S. A laugh for all fellow product photographers: can you spot the photographer’s mistake in the product picture? Yes, strobe light reflection in the Christmas ball! Hopefully I’ll notice that while taking the picture next time rather than in post-processing! 🙂

December 5, 2016 at 7:48 pm #20149thefarmhandParticipantHey @melaniethomsen, I was just curious… The CD title is “Looking Upwards”. I found it interesting that the photo is actually “looking downwards” at the harp. Just sparked my interest.

Great question, @thefarmhand! I’d like to think the harp was ‘looking up’. 🙂 It is also a CD of hymns which hopefully will point those who listen to ‘look up’ and fix their eyes on Christ.

December 7, 2016 at 10:47 am #20174James StaddonKeymasterOh, something to keep in mind when you do your “official” product shoot . . . when photographing items with text, make sure the titles are sharp in focus. Even if it takes a little Photoshop merging (local focus stacking), a photo will appear out of focus at first glance if text titles are out of focus. Sorta like a picture of a person with the eyes not quite perfectly in focus. I’m not seeing a full-res shot here, but the L and U in the one you uploaded look a little fuzzy.
December 7, 2016 at 5:59 pm #20186Melanie ThomsenParticipantThanks for the encouragement, @jamesstaddon. And thanks for the hint to keep the title lettering in focus – will have to watch for that on the “official” product shoot!
December 8, 2016 at 9:11 am #20187Ezra MorleyModeratorCongratulations, @melaniethomsen! Very nice design! I agree, simple is better. 🙂
I presume this is where someone would buy/preview the CD if they wanted one? 🙂
December 8, 2016 at 10:33 am #20188Melanie ThomsenParticipantThank-you, @buddingphotographer! And yes, that is where you can hear samples of the tracks and then there is a link on the lower left that takes you to the store. Well done! 🙂
