Hey y’all!
I recently upgraded to a full-frame setup after shooting for over 10 years (so stoked!).
This means I am selling one of my all-time favorite lenses: the 17-55 2.8.
This lens is quite sharp and quite fast, with a lovely fixed f/2.8 aperture for good low-light performance or dreamy bokeh. It has image stabilization too—something that the Canon 24-70 does not, allowing you to slow your shutter speed even while shooting handheld. Some reviewers note that the quality of the glass is comparable to Canon’s L lens line (just missing full-frame compatibility and a red line!)—and I’ve found this to be true as when I’m shooting next to my 70-200. It’s difficult to tell the difference from an image quality perspective.
I’ve shot five or six weddings on this lens with my Canon 60D, several paid gigs, lots of video, lots of family portraits, and countless(!) landscapes. This lens even performed well for Milky Way photography.
It’s been serviced twice by Canon since I’ve had it, (once for an aperture, and once for a ribbon cable if I’m not mistaken) and I just repaired the manual focus ring on it myself as it was slipping. I was able to partially tear it down, tighten it back to the original position and added a drop of superglue in place of the dried out locktite. Focuses fast, quietly, and accurately and the focus ring doesn’t slip anymore so you can focus manually to your heart’s content.
The glass is flawless with no scratches on the front glass or back glass. There’s minimal to moderate dust inside (does not affect picture quality). Absolutely no fungus or hazing. Cosmetically, the housing of the lens is in great shape with a couple of minor scuffs next to the image stabilizer switch.
The cheap off-brand lens hood I’m throwing in with it is VERY scuffed on the other hand (it’s been through a few adventures), but you can replace it if you’re concerned about cosmetics.
This would make a fantastic upgrade from a kit lens and you will notice the difference.
I’m asking $375 plus whatever shipping is (probably close to $35-ish). If you’re in Atlanta, shipping is free because that’s where I’m currently located 🙂
Thanks!
