ASSIGNMENT DETAILS:
• Publisher: Lenspiration’s Pro Posing Database, the Lenspiration member’s go-to place for portraiture training and inspiration!
• Purpose: Pro Posing is an exclusive section of Lenspiration, motivated by the desire to provide budding photographers with a wholesome place to gather portraiture ideas and learn basic, intermediate, and advanced techniques of portrait photography. We’re always looking for wholesome, creative posing ideas to add to the Database!
• Request: We would like to add specific, new posing ideas into three sections of the Database:
Section 1: Maternity
Section 2: Family
Section 3: Individual
Refer to the example images below for the specific posing ideas we’d like to add to these sections.
• Special Instructions:
1. WHERE TO START
Choose one of the three sections above to shoot for. For each section, there are three specific posing ideas that you will be required to shoot (refer to the example images below). You are required to photograph all three posing ideas for the section that you choose. Contact family or friends to ask them if they would be willing to model for you!
2. PLANNING YOUR SHOOT
Lighting: Try to conduct your photo shoot on a cloudy day or late in the afternoon around golden hour. This will help you to avoid deep shadows on faces. Try to shoot with backlight (your subjects’ backs to the sun), or sidelight (your shoulder to the sun).
Outfits: You are welcome to encourage families to color-coordinate (not necessarily match) for the added impression of family harmony and unity. Please refer to the Pro Posing Guidelines for a thorough review of our modesty standards.
3. AT THE SHOOT
Posing: The arrangement of the people in the photo should be as identical as possible to each of the three example images, including hand placement, head positioning and the angle at which the subjects are positioned.
Perspective: Shoot from the same angles as seen in the example images.
• Orientation: Refer to each example image to see whether orientation should be vertical or horizontal.
• Photo Specs: Submissions should be in JPG format, at least 2400px longest edge. No watermarks. All submissions should be in focus, properly exposed, without visible noise, well-composed, and processed tastefully. Please refer to the Pro Posing Guidelines for a more thorough review of our image quality standards.
• How to Submit: Members can follow the A, B, C process outlined here. (Instructions for non-members can be viewed here.)
• Remuneration: To qualify, you must submit all three posing ideas for the section you choose. Each submission must be an accurate representation of the posing idea.
Section 1: Maternity – $10 per chosen photo (three photos will be chosen!)
Section 2: Family – $7 per chosen photo (three photos will be chosen!)
Section 3: Individual – $4 per chosen photo (three photos will be chosen!)
• Terms: By submitting your photo(s) on this forum, you agree to the terms outlined in the STS Photo Assignment Agreement.
• Deadline: Midnight Saturday, September 26, 2020 (or until this topic is no longer highlighted yellow).
• Other notes: Each person you photograph will need to sign a model release (like this one); you do not need to submit the signed model releases to Lenspiration. Also, you may shoot for more than one section.

SPECIAL NOTE: While photographing the second pose (0988), I forgot to ask her to cradle the baby bump with her right hand. When photographing this pose, include that attribute and your photo will be more likely to be chosen. 🙂

Portraiture isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. And even when it is, shooting a specific pose adds an interesting twist. 🙂 Thanks for submitting, though, and we’ll talk more about how to photograph people on the webinar tomorrow night! https://www.lenspiration.com/webinar/photo-critique-57/
