I am so frustrated! Several times this week I went out during golden hour and took photos – primarily for the assignment, but also just for. Today, I started going through them. NOT ONE was in tack sharp focus. NOT. EVEN. ONE. On some I could see what the camera focused on, but on many I could not. And that has been James’ comment on the other assignments I participated in – not in focus.
So, am I too old and feeble to hold the camera still, and am just not aware of it? Is the camera at fault? The lens? The way I shoot?
If I don’t have a solid starting point, I can’t create a quality result.

Oh dear, @dotremain. That’s right. Many things can be “fixed” in post-processing, like exposure, color and noise. But focus is not one of those things.
How to troubleshoot the lack of sharpness completely depends on the kind of blur. Can you tell if the blur is from camera shake or subject movement? Or does it appear to be miss-focused, tack sharp behind or in front of the area you want to be sharp?
Hi! I don’t know if it’s me, or there are a lot of babies being born lately, I’ve been busy practicing XD anyway here are some of my photos, on Wednesday I hope to take the rest.
Also the world of editing is new to me so any feedback will be helpful!

The person/bike photos wasn’t the best lighting, so I shot for silhouettes.
The food photos were from my portfolio. They illustrate healthy eating healthy. Peas, salads, and avocados are good for you!Mr. Staddon, could you please answer this question on the webinar. I’m having unorderly methods in lightroom. How do you do ratings with your personal pictures? What about colors? or quick collection?

It appears I’m fighting several issues at once – some I can identify, some not. The ones I can are: focus in front or behind intended point (typically with a busy background); Shutter speed too slow – below 1/60 or less than 1/focal length (300mm shooting at 1/240) – camera or subject movement. The ones that are really puzzling are those of still objects, with no discernible in-focus area anywhere. It just looks like AF didn’t, or the depth of field was close to 0 (or negative).
My typical mode of shooting is hand-held with the 16mm – 300mm Tamron zoom (f/3.5 – 6.3) using the 4/3 sensor (Canon 80D). I tend to stand back from the subject, and use the zoom to frame what I want to shoot. My subjects tend to be candid and not staged. I have no L lenses, but I do have first generation Canon 50mm, 100-300mm and 28-80mm – on the theory that the first-out lenses for the new DSLRs had to be decent quality until they could bring out the L series lenses for the digital cameras.
I need to do some research on how to test for autofocus working correctly. I’ve never been satisfied with any of the AF technology. I learned on the split manual focus system (pick a vertical line and make it look right in the split section of the display).
